DuPont Funds New Lab Freezer for Brockville General Hospital

BROCKVILLE, August 19, 2013 – The Brockville General Hospital (BGH) will be acquiring a new medical laboratory quality control freezer, with funds from DuPont, “to further enhance the services it provides to patients, such as those who visit the emergency department, or those who receive in-patient care at the Elmgrove Unit, or Charles and Garden Street sites.  The laboratory also provides services to the people in the community receiving follow up care at various clinics including cancer, cardiac rehabilitation, labor and delivery, urology, and stroke prevention, to name a few,” said Susan Pugh, Director, Laboratory Services.

“Like others in our community, we’re grateful for the valuable services provided by the hospital and this lab, and we’re happy to fund the purchase of this new freezer,” said Bob Shackles, Manager of DuPont’s nearby Maitland manufacturing site.  “We produce refrigerants at the site, so we are also well aware of the significant value of the cooling capabilities they deliver to society in many different types of equipment and applications, such as a lab freezer.”

Representatives from DuPont’s Maitland site, including Mr. Shackles, presented a cheque for $6,250 to the hospital today.  The money, which will cover the cost of the freezer, comes from the global DuPont Community Fund and from the Maitland site.

The DuPont Community Fund was established in 1990 to improve the quality of life and enhance the vitality of communities in which DuPont operates.  This year, the DuPont Community Fund awarded a total of $285,000 in corporate matching funds to 91 projects at 61 different sites in 21 countries.
