TROY, MI, Apr 20, 2011 – Insights into the top challenges facing automotive design engineers, and new high-heat materials that can help the industry pioneer new metal replacing applications are the focus of two DuPont Automotive talks at the April 26 SPE Automotive Engineering Plastics Conference AutoEPCON at the MSU Management Education Center in Troy, Mich.

In a keynote address - "Top Issues Facing Automotive Engineers" - Mike Day, director of marketing and development – DuPont Automotive, will focus on the results of a 2011 survey of more than 500 SAE members commissioned by DuPont Automotive Performance Polymers and performed by Signet Research Inc., Cliffside Park, N.J.

How to Meet New Regulations?

Results of a survey regarding which automotive systems will be used to meet emerging automotive regulations.

In "High Heat Materials Beat Back the Boundaries in Advanced Powertrains," Steven Mok, global thermal systems segment manager – DuPont Automotive, describes new materials and application ideas to reduce cost and weight in turbo-charging systems and other powertrain systems despite challenges that stem from higher temperatures, increased pressure and prolonged exposure to engine and exhaust chemicals.

"The talks converge on the important role materials play and will continue to play in helping the industry reduce dependence on fossil fuels," said Day. "Fuel economy and emissions regulations challenge the design of practically every vehicle system, making materials and science-powered innovation integral to design."

Focused specifically on engineering plastics for the automotive industry, AutoEPCON is a one-day conference that helps facilitate networking throughout the value chain about advances in materials technology, predictive engineering, process enhancements, and application developments.
