Effective Alternaria (Blight) Control with Fontelis® Fungicide
Alternaria is a common and potentially costly disease affecting many bulb, brassica, cucurbit and fruiting vegetables.
The alternaria pathogen survives in infected plant debris: on the soil surface, buried in the soil or on or in the seed. Conditions favorable for spore production and secondary infections include heavy dews, rain and temperatures between 19°C and 23°C (66°F and 73°F).
Crop rotation and tillage can reduce the risk of disease by reducing the amount of primary inoculum (spores) in the area. Alternaria fungi tend to be weak competitors so factors that stress the crop (poor fertility, drought and insect damage and heavy fruit) will also put alternaria under pressure.
New fungicide for disease control in vegetable crops
As of 2012, growers have a better way to manage alternaria in their high-value vegetable crops. DuPont™ Fontelis® fungicide is the next-generation Group 7 fungicide for control of alternaria in bulb, brassica, cucurbit and fruiting vegetable crops.
Fontelis® delivers balanced residual, preventative and post-infection activity, along with translaminar and locally systemic protection. The compound also achieves good redistribution, to protect both treated and untreated parts of the plant.
In addition to alternaria, Fontelis® controls botrytis, powdery mildew and ascochyta in key vegetable crops.
