DuPont’s Semiconductor Technologies Hsinchu site in Taiwan has been certified as a Green Factory by the Industrial Development Bureau, and its newest expansion received a Silver LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The facility uses JW Pavement EcoTechnology for road surfaces to collect rainwater and keep surfaces cool.
The rainwater is recycled for use in landscape irrigation, saving around 3,000 tons of water per year. By changing internal processes, the team has also been able to reduce wastewater by 10%, and changes in the packaging of incoming materials have helped to reduce other kinds of waste significantly, too. In 2019, the site received a National Enterprise Environmental Protection Award from the R.O.C. (Taiwan) EPA for its green building design and energy efficient practices.
