DuPont Kingston Technology Centre

The DuPont Kingston Technology Centre (KTC) has a unique role to bring new technologies to the marketplace by optimizing products and processes to meet customer needs and to produce materials in a safe, environmentally sound and economical way.

History

Built in 1955, the Kingston Technology Centre (KTC) has a rich past in plastics and operates as part of a global network of R&D centres within DuPont. KTC is home to over 100 scientists, engineers, technologists, technicians plus administrative and support staff.

KTC has evolved over more than 60 years to play a specialized role in the development and scale-up of new chemical and polymer processes - from laboratory proof-of-concept, to semi-works piloting development, and commercialization. Our advanced facilities and equipment also enable our customers to reduce their cycle times and piloting costs.

Culture

KTC's Strength is in its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

We are very proud that the KTC has attracted incredible talent from leading industry and academia around the world. KTC strives to build organizational strength through diversity and inclusion. By creating an environment where different perspectives and diverging opinions can be freely communicated and discussed, we enable innovation to flourish.

Our employees come from over 20 countries and 5 continents, bringing diverse ideas and diverse backgrounds to our projects. Familiarity with native languages, cultures and traditions, advances development of products and technology, and their commercialization with business all around the world.

KTC employees actively participate in many community groups to promote diversity, equity and inclusion. Many of us are proud members of DuPont Employee Resource Groups, including the DuPont Women's Network, and the DuPont Pride ERG to enable equity in the workplace. The DuPont Canada DE&I network is led by Kingston-site based employees who work hard to organize events and communications that honour advances in DE&l and seek to educate our workforce in order to create a truly diverse and inclusive work environment.

Community Impact Partnership

Partnership with Habitat for Humanity Kingston

We care about our local communities! Through a Program for "Global Community Impact" (GCI), DuPont has established a Corporate Partnership with Habitat for Humanity to empower our company and employees in community building activities.

Every year, teams from several DuPont sites volunteer in Build Day helping build habitat homes in Kingston under the direction of Habitat staff. DuPont also donates building materials and funding to Habitat projects towards future homes. Our team members work together to help Kingston families in need build strength, stability, and independence through affordable homeownership.

United Way KF&A raises funds locally for programs that support immediate needs while also addressing root causes of issues that impact the people living in Kingston areas.

DuPont contributes to local United Way fundraising through Employee Payroll contributions, fundraising events, and participating in yearly United Way Day of Caring. Every year our campaign kick-off with a fundraising BBQ event.

Giving back to the local community
At DuPont, we promote a culture of volunteerism where KTC employees are encouraged to support community events and worthwhile causes.

Examples of volunteerism include participating in the annual Pitch-In Kingston, Habitat for Humanity build days, and Motionball. Our employees also generously donate their resources to number of causes such as the Kingston Food Drive, Operation Christmas Child, and Angel Tree.

STEM Engagement and Mentoring
At DuPont, we are passionate about STEM and we strive to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. In Kingston, we are a proud sponsor of various local/regional science fairs and Let's Talk Science. At these events, our employees volunteer as speakers, judges, facilitators and role models.

Additionally, our employees take part in mentoring university students in chemistry and engineering through the "Bonds for Success" program hosted by Queen's University and the Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC) Kingston chapter.

Sustainability

KTC is a strong contributor to DuPont's Sustainability strategy which is built on three pillars:
Innovate, Protect and Empower.

These pillars speak to our technology development, operations and people focused footprint and encompass the collection of goals that guide our work objectives, choices and actions.

"Applying safer and sustainable by design and green chemistry principles in our research to help DuPont businesses scale up their processes is super exciting because it leads to higher product yield, smaller footprint, deliberate design of raw materials for less life cycle impact, and reduced waste. It's great to expand our knowledge and see real implementation of our recommendations delivering differentiation, de-risking, and value creation for each line of business within DuPont."

George Jacob, Kingston Technology Centre Site Leader

KTC has committed to be a leader in building the sustainability culture by engaging with partners on their plans for incorporating Life Cycle Analysis and Sustainability into their innovation programs. Applying safer by design and 12 principles of green chemistry in our research to help DuPont businesses scale up their processes is super exciting because it leads to higher product yield, smaller footprint, deliberate design of raw materials for less lifecycle impact and reduced waste. It's great to expand our knowledge and see real implementation of our recommendations delivering differentiation, de-risking and value creation for each line of business within DuPont.
