DuPont de Nemours, Inc. Statement on PFAS

DuPont does not make PFOA, PFOS or GenX.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of chemicals that includes PFOA, PFOS, GenX, and other chemicals used to manufacture many everyday household products since the 1940s.

Today, our manufacturing and internal use is less than .01% of the total PFAS used in the world. While our use is extremely small, we’re actively pursuing alternatives to PFAS where possible in our manufacturing processes.

Safety and environmental stewardship are core values at DuPont. We’re committed to fulfilling our obligations and to being a responsible partner in addressing concerns about the health and environmental impacts of PFAS. For these reasons, DuPont is taking additional steps to address this issue:

  • We will eliminate PFAS used in firefighting foams at our sites by the end of 2021.

  • We will continue to support U.S. EPA and global regulatory efforts to develop science-based guidelines for PFAS and commit to meeting these requirements in our global operations.

  • Beginning in 2020, we will provide open-source access to our product stewardship software, PFAS water treatment resin technologies and fund grants to universities and other research institutes for new, innovative PFAS remediation technologies.

  • Finally, beginning in 2020, we will establish an advisory panel of internal and external experts to review our use and handling of substances of concern and will share our progress toward these commitments.
