Improving fire safety in buildings
According to the International Association of Fire and Rescue Services, across the world the most common place for a fire to begin is inside of a building. In the US alone, dwelling fires cost Americans over $10.8 billion in losses annually, along with more than 10,000 injuries and thousands of fatalities. Although national and local building code regulations are in place to minimize risk, human error and environmental factors make this a complex issue to completely stamp out.
DuPont™ Tyvek® FireCurb® breather membrane is used on the outside of buildings and has been on the market for almost a decade. It uses our patented halogen-free self-extinguishing technology which is designed to stop flames at the membrane and snuff them out. To complement this innovation, DuPont Water & Protection has now launched the high performance DuPont™ AirGuard® A2 FR Air and Vapor Control Layer (AVCL), offering a similarly advanced, fire-retardant, airtight and vapor-controlled membrane for internal walls and ceilings. In addition to its fire-retardant properties, the new AirGuard® A2 FR AVCL also brings enhanced benefits for conserving building energy and managing moisture, air quality, and interior comfort.
The products can be used together as a complete, durably enhanced fire safety solution—Tyvek® FireCurb® on the outside of the building and AirGuard® A2 FR AVCL on the interior. In many markets, these products provide exceptional fire safety that even surpasses existing regulations.
In July 2020, our Electronics & Imaging Interconnect Solutions (E&I ICS) site in Dongguan, China, celebrated the important milestone of reaching five years without a recordable injury for employees, and one year for contractors. The site also celebrated having no positive COVID-19 cases, despite hosting 179 essential workers on site.
In 2020, to avoid the risk of people receiving electric shocks from high-voltage electrical equipment, our Electronics & Imaging site in Dayuan, Taiwan, completed a project to upgrade the high-voltage switchgear around its four main gas circuit breakers.
